- Q. What kinds of work samples or evidences of learning are required with your program?
- Our Learning Consultants collaborate with a learner/family to create a detailed SelfDesign Learning Plan; the Learning Plan, plus weekly tracking of Observing for Learning entries, forms the basis of an ongoing weekly dialogue about learning with a SelfDesign LC. This happens online through our custom-designed interface and the SelfDesign Village. Samples of work are provided electronically where possible and may include pictures and other kinds of transferable files.
- Q. How is learning assessed?
- In responding to families, and in support of learning, SelfDesign Learning Consultants draw on their role as professional educators and reflect their training to assess Learning Journals and all submissions pertaining to learning. We use samples of work as confirmation of what the child can do within the larger context of all the feedback that we gather.
- Q. Are report cards/grades required, and if so, how are they determined?
- SelfDesign Learning Consultants will report on learning two times a year (for Integral and Ultimate levels), which we do in the form of SelfDesign "Seasonal Reports." These reports are primarily reflections and updates of the Learning Plan though they also provide an opportunity for feedback between families and Learning Consultants. The reports are collaborations between the learner, parent and Learning Consultant, often done through an interview. We do not provide letter grades, though we will provide parents/learners with a copy of the reports and a reference letter if requested.
