High School Distance Learning

Your unique path to learning that matters

SelfDesign offers you a personalized high school in which you:

• Deepen your understanding of your unique gifts and learning style
• Receive support and guidance from your personal SelfDesign Learning Consultant
• Design your own path basded upon your passions and enthusiasm
• Co-create a personal Learning Plan with your SelfDesign Learning Consultant
• Connect with other enthusiastic, self-directed youth

The heart of SelfDesign is found in the process of Observing for Learning and the dialogue between you and your Learning Consultant on a regular basis. The optimal timing of this interaction is weekly in order to give you the guidance and support you need in order to begin to see your passions and natural enthusiasm flowering into the observable moments of pure learning.

You can choose, however, to have this dialogue with the Learning Consultant occur weekly, bi-weekly, or once a month. The plans are based on the frequency of these interactions. Also during this time you and your Learning Consultant will create an online portfolio that celebrates and highlights your projecgs and passions.

All Learning Paths for learners ages 14-18 include the following core elements

• Interaction with a dedicated Learning Consultant
  During this interaction learners are coached and encouraged, learning is celebrated and SelfDesign processes and values are illuminated through meaningful dialogue.
  
• SelfDesign Learning Plan
  This is a dynamic plan for learning that guides you, bringing you back to the focus of your learning planning, and helps you to set and track meaningful goals.
  
• Observations for Learning Training
  With the help of a Learning Consultant, you will begin to see and appreciate what learning looks like outside of the traditional school paradigm.
  
• Learning Journal
  This is a scrapbook that celebrates and highlights not only what you are learning, but the processes you utilize to learn. It's a celebration of life and the art of being. This may also be used to provide evidence of learning for other entities if the you choose to use it in this way.
  
• Membership in the SelfDesign Global Community
  This online community is an interactive group of like minded youth who share enthusiasm for learning in specific areas and who together are navigating the waters of learning naturally outside of the school walls (both seen and unseen).

We recommend this as a powerful starting point to ensure your success with self-directed learning. When you choose Springboard, you will receive 5 hours of direct time and 1 hour of indirect time with a SelfDesign Learning Consultant. Learn More

Guide Along The Side

We have found that weekly interaction with the Learning Consultant is requested most often. This plan provides for weekly Journal Entries (four per month) and provides the most continuity of thought and focus. With this regular and frequent interaction between learners and Learning Consultant, a meaningful relationship can be formed. SelfDesigning is based on the power of relationships and understanding. With the offering, you will also be invited to join a SelfDesign Learning Circle. This plan, by far, is our most robust offering.

Mini-Guide

This path provides for direct interaction with the Learning Consultant twice a month and for the creation of two Learning Journal entries per month in the portfolio. This path will still allow you the opportunity to stay in close contact with the Learning Consultant and less frequent coaching sessions. If you are looking for a way to be involved in SelfDesign and see yourself as able to navigate the waters of this new endeavour with support from your Learning Consultant every other week, then this may be the plan for you.

Helping Hand

Even though this path is not the ideal path for getting started, it does provide a more economical way for you to receive the guidance and support SelfDesign offers. Most of the interaction with the Learning Consultant will take place in one session per month where the process of Observing for Learning and the values of SelfDesign are illuminated. This relationship will produce a single Learning Journal entry every month. In addition, the online SelfDesign community of learners and families will offer support throughout the month.
