Letter From Founder
Dear Parents,
We are living in an uncertain era, when the only thing that is certain is change. It is impossible to know what our world will look like 50 years from now when this generation of young children are the elders. Where and how will people be living? What will their working lives look like? How will technology have changed our daily living?
And what does all of this have to do with school or homeschooling your children? I believe that the future of our planet depends upon how we choose to educate our children, beginning in the present.
Today, when any fact can be obtained instantly at the push of a button and rapid and constant change is the only certainty, wisdom needs to be cultivated in children (rather than the mindless memorization and test-taking skills of the traditional school system). We must prepare people to deal with the unknown future, the new opportunity, the unforeseen challenge, in a thoughtful, insightful and resourceful manner if we are to sustain our life on the planet.
The SelfDesign educational model moves beyond schooling to a community-based model for learning in contemporary society. Where schools fail our children, SelfDesign offers breakthroughs in self-awareness and personal development. SelfDesign's goal is to provide families worldwide with an opportunity to author their own lives.
SelfDesign provides children with the tools, professional guidance, and support to discover their greatest passions and interest as part of a global community. SelfDesigning children then have the self-confidence and self-awareness to build a life of joyful creation. SelfDesigners are centered, self-directed, flexible and able to achieve their highest goals and aspirations even when the the path is not easy.
I am highly optimistic about the future of the planet and our species, for I know from 25 years of working with children and learners of all ages, that humans are highly resourceful, creative, and compassionate when given a positive model for learning and the process to achieve their full potential.
I believe that the brightest future lies in the hands of a generation of SelfDesigners.
