The Technology

OK. We admit it. We at SelfDesign love applying new technologies to help children and adults learn.
In fact, we are a virtual company with team members spread across the globe: from our home base in Canada we connect with team members in the United States, Europe, Asia, India, and even on boats traveling the world.
SelfDesign Global Community
Our SelfDesigning families connect together in our the SelfDesign Global Community for discussion groups, chats, and video conferences in a safe, securing, and nurturing environment for your children.
Our SelfDesign R&D team has spent decades researching how technology can accelerate or block learning. SelfDesign Learning Programs use technology to connect people in a thriving, co-inspiring learning community - accelerating learning and increasing enthusiasm.
We understand that adults, teens, and young children interact with technology differently. Young children may enjoy brief video chats with their SelfDesign Learning Consultant and will spend most of their time offline, interacting with the world. Teens and adults often combine video chatting, email, and sharing audios, videos, and samples of their (and their children's) work through Personal Learning Portfolios.
Technology Requirements
- Computer (less than 3 years old recommended)
- Internet connection (high-speed strongly recommended)
Note: Although we support all platforms and operating systems we recommend Apple Computers and the Mac OSX operating system (Leopard 10.5). We find the system easier to use, the computers more reliable and less troublesome as well as more compatible for video conferencing.
We also recommend small hand-held video recorders to document learning (ideally flash memory based) which are available for around $US100.
